Kyle Dunagan Poff’s stylized oil compositions draw on elements of traditional painting and illustration, and on the artist’s own history as a graphic designer. His works feature spare compositions, bold color palettes, and occasional human figures. Poff received his BFA from the University of North Texas before going on to produce designs for commercial clients including Penguin Books, Nike, Compartes, New York Times Magazine, and Marlboro. Currently living in Chicago and inspired by the folk and modernist eras, the works aim to reflect everyday viewpoints through still life and landscapes. The subject matter is usually grounded in reality-based compositions, but some tend to dip into more dreamlike settings. "I want my artwork to be hard to tell when it was created - as if it's old and new at the same time, and also as if it was a distant memory, like a painting you saw in someone's house that you've thought about for a long time but never saw twice. That's the sweet spot for me."
